The stories originally appeared from 1939-1949 in the magazines Planet Stories, Astounding, Thrilling Wonder Stories and Startling Stories. Of particular note are 16 full-color illustrations by Edd Cartier that accompany the story "The Interstellar Zoo."
The Adventures in Science Fiction series is a five-book set, the first of which was published in 1950. This is the third book in the series. Greenberg, the Gnome Press co-founder and editor of the series, came up with the idea of a themed anthology -- a collection of short works that told an overall story by presenting a set of ideas or progression of ideas in each book. The dust jacket shown in this listing is from the 1953 edition of "Travelers of Space." It was distributed with a blue Ric Binkley dust jacket instead of the original red Cartier jacket.
